The Department of Applied Geomatics at the University of Sherbrooke has earned a strong reputation as a major player in this field. Its commitment to environmental applications sets it apart, offering comprehensive diploma and continuous education programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. These programs enable students to acquire expertise in spatial technologies such as satellite image processing, Lidar data analysis, drone imagery, and GPS data to tackle ecological, hydrological, forestry, agricultural, and land-use challenges.

Moreover, the department is internationally recognized for its multidisciplinary and dynamic research, hosting two prominent research centers in remote sensing: CARTEL (Center for Remote Sensing Applications and Research) and GRIMP (Interdisciplinary Research Group on Polar Environments). These research efforts extend to remote and challenging territories like the Arctic, oceans, and even Mars, aiming to enhance our understanding of these unique environments.
